Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of the clinical learning environment on nursing students¡¯ powerlessness and self-efficacy related to clinical practice.
Methods: Participants were 149 nursing students from a university who had completed their clinical practicum in B city. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe¡¯s test, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression.
Results: The mean score of the clinical learning environment was 2.99 out of 5 points, the powerlessness related to the clinical practice, 2.96 out of 5 points, and the self-efficacy related to clinical practice, 73.69 out of 100 points, respectively. The regression analysis showed that the clinical learning environment explained 11% of the powerlessness related to clinical practice and 3% of the self-efficacy related to clinical practice in the nursing students after controlling for the general characteristics.
Conclusions: The result of this study indicated that it is necessary to improve the clinical learning environment for decreasing the feeling of powerlessness and increasing the self-efficiency related to clinical practice among the nursing students.
